Why Aadhaar?

  • Great potential for not-so-privileged, poor and the marginalised people, mostly living in the rural areas
  • Clear proof of identity
  • Facilitate entry for poor and underprivileged residents into the formal banking system
  • Opportunity to avail services provided by the government and the private sector
  • Giving migrants mobility of  identity
  • Financial inclusion with deeper penetration of banks, insurance and easy distribution of benefits of government schemes.

Once a person is on the Aadhaar database the person will be able to establish identity easily. Aadhaar will become the single source of identity verification. Residents would be spared the hassle of repeatedly providing supporting identity documents each time they wish to access services such as obtaining a bank account, passport, driving license and so on. By providing a clear proof of identity, Aadhaar will also facilitate entry for poor and underprivileged residents into the formal banking system and the opportunity to avail services provided by the government and the private sector.  Aadhaar will also give migrants mobility of identity.

      is DOB printed on the card, only YOB, is printed on my card ( even though I provided my DOB) then how can this card is usefuul to apply for Passport

      As per my knowledge, It’s a proof of Identity, NOT a proof of date of birth or address.

          at the time of enrolment no one asked for DOB certificate,yet we provided DOB, but on the card, only year of birth is printed.then how can it be usefull to apply for Passport ? and what is the use of this card ? as we have other cards with DOB & POA pl, clarify

            Adhaar gave both option,either you can enter the full bob or the year of birth if date of birth is not known.

          Since DOB is not mentioned on AADHAR card, (only year is mentioned), it is not considered valid proof of DOB.

      Since one has to submit the age and address related documents to obtain aadhar number, i think it can be used as a proof of dob and address to obtain a passport.

    A step towards better tomorrow. Eager to get UID Card for myself. Will do soon. All i can say India is needing Best Practises implemented for the procedures/processes run by various Government Agency. This is what a step taken. It must be used properly to get 100% utilization for the better and firm control, for the highest benefits.

    Today i.e. on 5th July,2011, the Centre Promise Apartments, 138 F-Block, Vikaspuri was found to be shifted to Nav Yug Apartments, Vikaspuri, New Delhi where the concerned staff refused to entertain the residents of Uttam Nagar by saying that they should approach to Nawada Centre. Why the people are being misguided in the daily newspapers by mentioning that one could get the UID in any of the centres in Delhi?

      As per my knowledge, It’s a proof of Identity, NOT citizenship, as it may be issued to non Indians residing in India.

    As per my view in future this AADHAR CARD will linked to other scheme like PF,PPF,NSC & other investment or proof of ID is the basic proof.INDIAN GOVT has taken one of the good step towards future,the way of bio-metric,fingure prints add details, & the system was good.GO AHEADGREAT

    I had enrolled for UID last week. But I find most of the benefits and uses of the ID are for poor, marginalised
    and similar rural people, particularly with relation to the benefits under Govt.schemes/programmes. I do
    not know whether all such rural people have been covered by now. What is the urgency in bringing it to
    towns and cities when most of the people there are affluent, or middle class/working class, having already
    some kind or identity. Is possession of UID will make the use of other types of identities like PANcard,Ratiomcard, Electoral ID and other types of IDs superfluous?

      once uid become fully fuctional , all yoyr documents and cards like PAN , ATM , PASSPORT etc will be merged in uid card itself

    This Aadhaar Card is the most dangerous thing…

    There won’t be any benefit. Does govt. have enough technology & infrastructure to read and check the UID cards??? eg. If I require address proof of a person for financial activity (banking) and person provides me Aadhaar Card; how can I check is this true or fraudulent card? I can’t check his her finger prints & retina scanning…

    Who is maintaining the all details (database)? Govt. or Pvt. firm – Indian or foreign??

    Is my information secured??? Is it necessary to disclose my life’s the most important & unique parameters (finger prints & retina scanning) to somebody???

    Has any other country implemented such system successfully; especially in developing countries??

    Someone should answer for my queries…

      mr.if the person get accident and he loses his eyes he will not lose his face identification and he will also not loose both hand at the same time.

    Better apply for passport – Atleast it servers all the there purpose – Address proof, date of birth proof and signature proof plus it is widely accepted; I don’t understand the need of UID specially when it isn’t integrate with any PAN, PASSPORT, DRIVING LICENSE, HEALTH SYSTEM, Employee PF etc…

    It is a waste of public money and more importantly it is heavily subjected to misuse by officials.

    Hi I have recieved my UID card today. Could any one please provide me the list of services where I can use my UID as proof. Also on my UID card it was written that “To establish identity, authenticate online.”. Could any one please tell me what does it mean as I searched web and did not find anything such as authentication of identity for UID.

    The address is taken just as a postal address. The card is not an address proof. So if you’re gonna change your address it will not affect anything as it is just an Identity proof and NOT an Address proof.

    MY WIFE AND MYSELF APPLIED FOR AADHAR CARD IN THE MONTH OF JULY.2011,AND SINCE THEN 8 MONTHIS HAVE PASSED WE ARE YET TO RECEIVE THEM. STATUS SHOWS THAT THE CARDS HAVE BEEN GENERATED IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER,2011 IN THAT CASE WHY IT IS BEING DELAYED?

      you may need to call the passport office to confirm it.There is no option for Adhaar for E-form of application and also the document guidelines.Ask them,if they are allowing,you only need adhaar as the POI and POA.
